2012 1463579772 / 9781463579777 First Edition Paperback New SIGNED BY AUTHOR
Valor in a Border State is a 10 year compilation of biographies, amazing stories, photos and maybe even a little folklore of the brave soldiers of St. Mary's County, Maryland who gave up everything to cast thier lot with the newly formed Confederate States of America. In 1860, unimaginable choices had to be made by our great grandfathers. The choice of state vs. country, North vs. South, to enlist or to remain neutral, ideals vs. beliefs. One could only guess at the choices we would have made had we been living in St. Mary’s County, Maryland during the Civil War. This book brings to life some of the men of St. Mary’s, their stories, their struggles and their lives. The shaping of a new nation or the reshaping of an old one squarely rested upon their shoulders. About the author: Rob Long was born in Leonardtown, Maryland in 1969. He now resides in Lusby, Maryland with his wife Karrie and their three children Emily, Madison and Shayne. He has worked as a mechanic and mechanical planner at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant for 22 years. Robert enjoys being a husband, father, Civil War re-enactor, local historian, Lt. Commander of the Captain Vincent Camalier Camp 1359 Sons of Confederate Veterans, author and Master Mason.

Papenfuse notes, “...we have reviewed all of the careful biographical research that you conducted... which documents an unbroken line of service to St. Mary’s County, the mother county of Maryland, back to the first appointment in 1637. It reaches an exceptionally high standard of documentation in which we all can take pride.” Signed by several of the authors

This was Potomac River, Tilp, Frederick
9 Tilp, Frederick This was Potomac River
Maryland Tilp, Frederick 1978 First Edition Hardcover Very Good Very Good
Book has no shelf wear. Jacket is in very good condition as well, with no edge tears or chip, except at spine ends (very minor). Pages are clean and bright. "Here is an immensely readable treasure-trove of Potomac River lore. It is a rich chronicling of the river's history, filled with sprightly and spicy memorabilia. It enlivens the significant events which have taken place on or near the mighty tidewater stream, and the activities of the men and women who have sailed its waters and trod its shores. And it recaptures inimitably the human foibles, frailities, and eccentricities that have touched life along its expanses. In important respects, the Potomac is renowned above all other rivers. Throughout its tidal reaches, the river's history is infused with the story of the men and women active along its shores, some of whom rank among the most eminent of America's immortals. The Nation's capital stands at the river's tidal head; this paramountly distinguishes the Potomac River. The book reflects in detail the author's lifetime fascination with the Potomac. In undertaking to chronicle the river's past, he has focused major research upon old records, diaries, and newspaper and archival resources. The volume's sweeping range recalls the river landings reaching out from the tidewater shores of yesterday, and it perceives the river life, today somewhat faded, yet to be imbued with aspects of the past."
